Omro girls basketball falls to top-ranked Laconia, Spartans clinch third consecutive Flyway championship

ROSENDALE - After leading by as many as four points in the first half, Omro (11-8, 6-4) saw its offense go ice cold against a stifling Spartans defense in a 64-47 loss to Laconia (18-2, 11-0), the top-ranked team in Division 4.

The Spartans went on a big second half run to clinch their third consecutive Flyway conference championship, this time in outright fashion.

Madeline Brooks scored 14 points to lead the Foxes.

Aubrey Leonard led Laconia with a game-high 16 points and Callista Vande Berg followed with 14.

Tierney Madigan and Payton Morgan each tacked on 10 points for the Spartans. Madigan is now only 10 points short of reaching 1000 for her career.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 7 (D-5) Lourdes Academy 47, Central Wisconsin Christian 30

WAUPUN - The No. 7-ranked Knights (17-2, 11-0 Trailways-East) jumped out to an 18-point lead at the half and coasted the rest of the way in a low-scoring victory over the Crusaders (7-11, 4-7).

Hailee Bauer scored a game-high 17 points with six rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead Lourdes. Delaney Ruedinger and Ella Slusarski each added 10 points and combined for 11 more steals for the Knights' defense.

McKenzie Zuhlke led CWC with 10 points.

Valley Christian 65, Dodgeland 48

OSHKOSH - The Warriors (13-5, 8-3 Trailways-East) defeated the Trojans (6-13, 1-10) to keep pace amongst the top three teams in the conference.

Anna Y. Giannopoulos led Valley Christian with 19 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Lizzie Fink followed with 17 points and Mya Moran had 12 points with three steals. Anna E. Giannopoulos had nine points with six assists and four steals and Paige Boevers rounded out the Warriors with eight points and a pair of blocks.

Emma Carpenter scored a game-high 23 points, including three 3-pointers, with eight rebounds and two steals to lead Dodgeland. Mallory Kohn followed with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

No. 6 (D-1) Neenah 59, Oshkosh North 42

OSHKOSH - The Spartans (8-12, 3-11 Fox Valley Association) trailed by 14 at the half to the No. 6-ranked Rockets (17-3, 12-2) in the conference loss.

Ava Hanson led Oshkosh North with 19 points and five rebounds.

Allie Ziebell, recently announced by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association as a finalist for this year's Ms. Basketball Award, scored a game-high 21 points with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block to lead Neenah.

Rowan Klesmit added 13 points and Ellie Buss had 11 for the Rockets.

Winneconne 54, Ripon 48

WINNECONNE - The Wolves (9-11, 5-5 East Central) defended their den and evened their conference record with a victory over the Tigers (7-12, 2-7).

Harper Neace led Winneconne with a game-high 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double and Grace Mitchell added 11 points, four steals and two blocks for the Wolves.

Karsyn Bauman scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocks to lead Ripon. With a three-pointer in the first half, Bauman became just the fifth player in school history to reach 1000 career points.

Ari Brooks added 10 points, five boards, two steals and two blocks for the Tigers.

No. 2 (D-3) Waupun 64, Berlin 19

WAUPUN - Berlin (12-8, 4-5 East Central) fell to Waupun (18-2, 9-1), the No. 2-ranked team in Division 3.

Claire Bartol led Berlin with 10 points and five rebounds.

Rowan Harder scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the first half to lead the Warriors and Lydia Aalsma added 14 points, including 12 in the first half, for Waupun.

Gracie Gopalan chipped in with a team-high six assists and three steals to go with her nine points.

Kayl Petersen, recently named a Ms. Basketball finalist by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, finished with four points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Central Wisconsin Christian 60, Lourdes Academy 47

WAUPUN - The Knights (13-5, 8-3 Trailways-East) fell to the Crusaders (9-8, 6-3), but remain a game ahead of Oakfield for first place in the conference.

JJ McKellips scored 23 points to lead Lourdes.

Waupun 76, Berlin 65

WAUPUN - Berlin (15-4, 5-3 East Central) fell to the Warriors (12-6, 8-1).

Wyatt Hamersma and Aaron Bartol each scored 16 points apiece, and Hamersma also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double, to lead Berlin. Carter Hess added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Warbirds 4, Lakeshore 1

FOND DU LAC - The Warbirds (13-6-1, 5-2-1 Eastern Shores) struck down the Lightning (11-7-2, 4-3-1).

Olivia Dykema opened the game's scoring with a goal for Lakeshore, but that would be all they would get as the Warbirds rattled off four straight goals in response to pick up the win.

Chloe Tobin got the Warbirds on the board with a shorthanded goal, assisted by Josie Kooima, and Kayla Dogs took the lead with a goal on passes from Callie Rottman and Maddy Gilson.

After no score in the second period, Kristi Binder cashed in a power play goal on assist from Rottman and then Rottman scored herself on assists by Amanda Kabat and Allison Waara.

Emma Jillig made 13 saves for the Warbirds and Elizabeth Bowers had 24 saves for the Lightning.
