Dartmouth field hockey wraps up perfect season; SouthCoast's top performers for Oct. 21-27

In the final full week of the regular season for high school fall sports in Massachusetts, SouthCoast's nine schools — ApponequetBishop StangDartmouthFairhavenGNB Voc-TechNew BedfordOld ColonyOld Rochester and Wareham — made a final push for the playoffs.

Here's a look at the top high school performers, scores and highlights from Oct. 21-27.

Friday, Oct. 27

FIELD HOCKEY

Dartmouth 5, Apponequet 0: Dartmouth completed a perfect 17-0 regular season thanks to the win over the Lakers on Senior Night. Sarah Cabral scored two goals, assisted by Samantha Souza. Kallie Rose had a goal and an assist while Sydney Almeida scored twice. For Apponequet (5-11-2), Allison Arruda made 30 saves in net.

Westport 2, Bishop Stang 1: Avery Halstead had the lone goal for Bishop Stang (5-11-2, 0-5-1 CCL).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Case 3, Dartmouth 2: Alaina Strozik had 51 assists and 14 digs to lead Dartmouth (16-4, 8-0 SEC) while Adeline Ablett had a personal-best 20 kills. Brooke Davis had a personal-best 30 digs and added 10 kills while Chloe McKinnon chipped in with 11 kills. Haley Jenkins had nine kills. Olivia Arruda added 16 digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Old Rochester 4, Apponequet 1: For Apponequet (6-11-1, 3-9-1 SCC), Ryan Vincent had one goal while Rowan Jensen had an assist and Josh Snyder had eight saves.

Thursday, Oct. 26

BOYS SOCCER

Apponequet 2, Middleboro 1: George Psichopaidas had two goals for Old Rochester (9-5-2, 7-3-2 SCC) while Garrett Ignacio and John Marmelo each had one. Rowan Jensen had one goal and one assist while Tommy Smith added a goal and Ethan Hecht had an assist for Apponequet (6-10-1, 3-8-1 SCC).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Apponequet 3, Durfee 0: Kohana Fontinha had 11 kills, five digs, four assists and two aces for Apponequet (10-9, 6-7 SCC) while Sofia Estrella added three kills and nine service points. Sofia Olivieri had 13 service points and two aces. Delaney Jacobsen chipped in with five kills, 10 service points and three aces.

GNB Voc-Tech 3, New Bedford 0: For New Bedford (3-17, 2-6 SEC), Annabelle Huston had 12 kills and seven service points while Iriana Carrion and Na'Rya Burgos had four kills apiece. Lily Gonet dished out 21 assists.

Sturgis West 3, Old Colony 0: Kelly Quin had three kills, three digs and one ace while Jonathan Buker chipped in with 12 digs and Hailey Goldstein had four assists for the Cougars (3-16, 2-8 MAC).

Somerset Berkley 3, Bishop Stang 0: Ali James had 12 kills while Lilly Manning added nine and Lilly Surprenant had 21 assists for Bishop Stang (8-10, 3-5 CCL). Darian Dias added 23 digs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Apponequet 4, Middleboro 1: Morgan Hayward had two goals while Amelia Menendez and Arden McCarty each had a goal and Kaiya Rego chipped in with two assists for Apponequet (16-1-2, 11-0-2 SCC).

New Bedford 1, Barnstable 1: Ollie Costa scored the lone goal for New Bedford (1-15-2, 0-8 SEC) on a breakaway.

FIELD HOCKEY

Dartmouth 9, Brockton 0: Sydney Almeida, Kallie Rose and Samantha Sousa each had one goal and one assist while Grace Haskell had two goals and one assist for undefeated Dartmouth (16-0, 8-0 SEC). Natalie Murphy chipped in with two goals while Kaelyn Zuber had one goal and two assists.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Catholic Central League meet: Lowell Copps won the championship, finishing first among 79 runners with a time of 17:07. Conor Levesque was 13th while Brennen Vane was 15th (19:04).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Catholic Central League meet: Helena Morrison came in eighth out of 62 girls with a time of 22:28. Lola Bergeron was 43rd (27:04).

Wednesday, Oct. 25

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Southeast Conference meet: Dartmouth took first thanks to Elaijah Monteiro (third; 17:13.80), Luke Bloom-Glover (fourth; 17:15.16), Tyler Amaral (seventh; 17:28.29), Jared Mendonca (10th; 18:03.58) and Adriano Sousa (15th; 18:45.17). New Bedford placed fourth with contributions from Joseph Castillo (16th; 18:50) and John Paul Morris (30th; 19:54).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Southeast Conference meet: New Bedford took second with Lena Morris placing fifth (20:52), Alyasha Sylvia-Figueroa coming in 11th (23:40). Dartmouth placed fifth behind the running of Grace Sperry (12th; 23:41.05), Makai Vincent (14th; 24:29.54), Abigail Oliveira (26th; 28:40.48), Isabelle Moitoso (28th; 29:16.12) and Melanie Khatib (31st; 31:37.02).

FIELD HOCKEY

Middleboro 3, Apponequet 0: Allison Arruda had 13 saves for Apponequet (5-10-2).

GIRLS SOCCER

Dartmouth 4, GNB Voc-Tech 0: Avi Andrade had one goal and one assist to lead Dartmouth. Ava Fernandes, Michaela DeSouza and Sarah Kelly scored one goal apiece.

BOYS SOCCER

Dartmouth 1, GNB Voc-Tech 1: Owen Carter had the lone goal for Dartmouth (7-6-2) assisted by Lucas Martinez.

South Shore 1, Wareham 0: Malachi Samuels had two saves while Cole Berriault and Kyle Susko played well for Wareham (1-11-3).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Dartmouth 3, GNB Voc-Tech 0: Brooke Davis led Dartmouth (16-3) with 11 kills and 11 digs while Alaina Strozik had 27 assists and seven digs. Adeline Ablett chipped in with 10 kills while Chloe McKinnon had nine and Haley Jenkins had seven. Olivia Arruda was 12 for 12 on serve receive with 11 digs. Gaby Velazquez and Victoria Carvalho each had nine digs.

Old Rochester 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Caroline Brogioli led Old Rochester (15-4) to victory in its regular season finale with 14 digs, eight service points and three aces. Cami Van Ness had seven digs and six kills while Arielle Troupe added eight kills and 11 service points. Aubrie Letourneau contributed 18 assists, 10 service points and two aces.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

GOLF

Div. 2 South: Bishop Stang captured the Div. 2 South Sectional championship at Easton Country Club with Matt Oliviera tying for first place with a 1-over par 72. Teammate Matt Costello was third with a 74 while Jack Shea was tied for seventh (79). Defending state champion Old Rochester came in third as a team with Peter le Gassick leading the way with a 77 (tied for fourth). Dartmouth finished eighth with Tom Moreira shooting an 81 and Will Gangi carding an 89. Both Bishop Stang and Old Rochester advance to the state championship.

BOYS SOCCER

Apponequet 3, West Bridgewater 0: Rowan Jensen scored all three goals for the Lakers (5-10-1, 3-8-1 SCC) while Tommy Smith had an assist and Josh Snyder made six saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Apponequet 4, West Bridgewater 3: Morgan Hayward notched a hat trick while Emma Seaberg added a goal for Apponequet (15-1-2, 11-0-2 SCC). Reagan Flynn, Leah McGee and CeCe Levrault each had an assist.

Brockton 6, New Bedford 0: Caitlin Almeida, Ollie Costa and Lexie Fitzgerald played well for New Bedford (1-14-1).

FIELD HOCKEY

Old Rochester 2, Fairhaven 1: Tessa Winslow scored the winning goal off a penalty corner. Emilia Perreira had the other goal for ORR while Lauren Souza scored for Fairhaven. Reilly Patraiko had four saves for the Bulldogs.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Dartmouth 3, Duxbury 2: Alaina Strozik broke Cierra Yim’s single-match assist record of 51 set in 2019 with 53 assists. She also had 20 digs. Brooke Davis had 28 digs and 11 kills while Adeline Ablett had a personal-best 18 kills.

Bishop Feehan 3, Bishop Stang 0: Lilly Manning had three kills and three aces to lead the Spartans (8-9, 3-5 CCL) while Ali James added three kills and one ace.

Monday, Oct. 23

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Old Rochester 3, Fairhaven 0: Aubrie Letourneau had 30 assists, 12 digs and two aces for ORR (14-4, 11-2 SCC) while Kam Rodrigues added eight kills, five digs and two aces. For Fairhaven (6-10), Kiana Coppa had seven kills and 11 digs while Ava Bissonnette had four kills, four digs and two aces. Emma Gomes chipped in with seven digs while Liz DaCunha had six digs and two aces.

GNB Voc-Tech 3, West Bridgewater 2: Elle McCormack had 33 kills while Layna Ross led the offense with 22 kills. Morgan Teves had seven aces and 15 digs.

Wareham 3, Mashpee 0: Olivia LaCava had 16 assists, seven digs, two aces and three kills to lead the Vikings. Riley Florindo added 16 digs, three kills and three assists while Priscilla Ross chipped in with 15 digs and five aces. Evelyn Francis added eight kills and 12 digs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Old Rochester 3, Fairhaven 0: Kate Thomsen, Liz Feeney and Zoe Plante each had a goal for Old Rochester (9-7-1) while Audrey Thomas had two assists and Gigi Duchaine had one. Emerson Roy had the shutout in net.

Apponequet 8, Bourne 0: Emma Seaberg and CeCe Levrault each had two goals and one assist to power the Lakers (14-1-2, 10-0-2 SCC). Annie Smith added two goals while Jaida Beaulieu had one goal and two assists. Morgan Hayward chipped in with a goal and an assist. Grace Schwartz made five saves.

GNB Voc-Tech 4, West Bridgewater 2: Kendra Santiago had four goals for Voc-Tech (8-6-2, 7-3-2 SCC), bringing her season total to 24.

Blue Hills 3, Old Colony 2: McKenna Benoit had six kills, seven aces and two digs for Old Colony (3-15, 2-8 MAC) while Kelly Quin added five kills, seven aces and five digs. Madison Laughlin chipped in with four kills and seven aces and Hailey Goldstein had five assists. Logan Crook added three aces and five digs.

Bishop Stang 3, Middleboro 2: Ali James led the Spartans (8-8, 3-4 CCL) with eight kills, four aces and one block while Ava Moniz added seven kills. Lilly Surprenant chipped in with three kills, three aces and 19 assists while Maggie Martin added three kills, one ace and 13 digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Old Rochester 1, Fairhaven 0: George Psichopaidas had the lone goal for ORR (8-5-2, 6-4-2 SCC) while Emile Joseph made seven saves.

FIELD HOCKEY: Undefeated Dartmouth captures at least a share of the SEC with a win over Durfee

FIELD HOCKEY

Apponequet 3, Seekonk 0: Taylee Vasques had two goals while Cynthia Morales added one. Brynn McLaughlin and Addie Taylor each had an assist. Ally Arruda made four saves for Apponequet (5-9-2).

Bishop Stang 2, New Bedford 1: Ella Plouffe had both games for Bishop Stang (5-10-2, 0-5-1 CCL) while Molly Kearney added a pair of assists.

GOLF

Div. 1 South meet: New Bedford’s Craig Baptista shot a 89 at the Div. 1 South Sectional meet at East Country Club.

Div. 3 South meet: Fairhaven’s Calvin Downing and Parker Herman both shot 83s to finish tied for 10th at the Div. 3 South Sectional meet.

Saturday, Oct. 21

GIRLS SOCCER

Taunton 6, New Bedford 1: Caitlin Almeida scored the lone goal for New Bedford (1-13-1, 0-7 SEC) off a penalty kick in the first half.

Old Rochester 2, GNB Voc-Tech 1: Audrey Thomas scored two goals for Old Rochester (8-7-1) while Liz Feeney and Kate Thomsen each had an assist.
