Baker Mayfield’s jersey made it to the pregame coin toss before Oklahoma’s game vs. West Virginia.

Mayfield was stripped of his captaincy for the game after he grabbed his crotch and shouted expletives towards the Kansas bench during the Sooners’ win over the Jayhawks a week ago. So he didn’t get to represent the team at the coin toss.

But running back Dimitri Flowers and offensive lineman Orlando Brown wanted Mayfield there in spirit, apparently. So they carried his jersey with them before the game. Remember — Mayfield is not injured. He’s just simply suffering consequences from grabbing his groin area on camera.

Mayfield was also benched for the start of the game — a benching that lasted a whopping two plays thanks to Kyler Murray’s excellence. Mayfield’s backup ran for 66 yards on OU’s first offensive play of the game and running back Rodney Anderson scored on the next play.

The Heisman frontrunner was then in the game on the Sooners’ second series and led Oklahoma on a quick scoring drive.
