OKC Thunder trades Patty Mills to Atlanta Hawks for package including TyTy Washington

TyTy Washington Jr. is the third Kentucky guard on the Thunder’s roster, joining Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace.

The Thunder made a trade shortly before tipping off Saturday in the Las Vegas Summer League.

As reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder is acquiring TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay and a second-round pick from the Hawks in exchange for veteran guard Patty Mills, whom the Thunder just acquired.

It’s a money-saving trade of about $4.5 million for the Hawks, while the Thunder continues its pursuit of more draft assets without worrying about a supposed roster crunch.

Washington, a second-year guard out of Kentucky, was the No. 29 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Garuba was the 23rd pick in the 2021 draft.

Both Washington and Garuba were traded from the Rockets to the Hawks, and now they’ve been rerouted to the Thunder.

Gay, a 17-year veteran, is on an expiring $6.2 million contract.
