OHSAA State Track Meet 2023 | Canton-area winners from inside Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium

COLUMBUS — After winning one state title Friday afternoon, Stark County athletes wasted no time climbing to the top of the podium Saturday at the Ohio High School Athletic Association track and field state championships.

The OHSAA state meet wraps up today at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Ohio State's campus. Canton-area athletes yet again will leave with multiple state championship medals.

Ahsha DiPietro of Perry becomes a two-time OHSAA track state champion

Perry's Ahsha DiPietro won the girls seated 100 meters, shortly after the state meet resumed Saturday evening. It's her second state title of the day. She won the 400 earlier.

OHSAA state track meet enters second lightning delay

The state meet is back in a weather delay due to lightning in the area for a second time.

The OHSAA plans to allow fans to return inside Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at 7:30. Running events are scheduled to resume as soon as possible on a rolling schedule after the gates reopen.

The Division I running finals had yet to begin when the first delay began around 4:25 and lightning continued to be seen in the area until around 5. By OHSAA rule, competition can not resume until at least 30 minutes after the last lightning sighting.

The OHSAA tweeted at 5:15 that the stadium gates would reopen at 5:30, with track resuming at 6. But after a couple of races in the Division I meet, more lightning flashed and another delay began.

Perry High School ninth-grader Ahsha DiPietro is an OHSAA state champion

Perry freshman Ahsha DiPietro is the girls seated 400 meters state champion. GlenOak's Elena Knowles finished fifth. Massillon's Alayna Mendenhall came in ninth.

Earlier Saturday, DiPietro finished third in the girls seated 800. Knowles took fifth.

Jackson's Leena Patibandla is the state runner-up in the Division I girls discus.

In the boys Division I pole vault, GlenOak's Layne Studer cleared a personal-best 16 feet, 4 inches. He finished as the state runner-up on tiebreakers.

Also, Alliance's Carter Lewis finished fourth in the Division I boys discus.

Marlington has top 3 finishes in OHSAA Division II 3,200

Marlington's Nash Minor is the state runner-up in the Division II boys 3,200 meters.

In the girls 3,200, Marlington's Bella Graham finished third.

Colin Cernansky defends OHSAA state track Division II mile championship

Marlington's Colin Cernansky will leave Columbus with two championship medals from the state track meet for the second straight year.

He defended his title in the 1,600 meters Saturday.

Friday, he anchored the Dukes to a second straight win in the 3,200 relay.

Marlington defends boys 3,200 relay title in OHSAA Division II

With two newcomers to the quartet, including one who made his postseason debut Friday on the track at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, the Marlington Dukes are again Division II state champions in the 3,200-meter relay.

The relay featured Luke Ryan, Cohen Boyce, Logan Citino and Colin Cernansky. Cernansky looks to defend his open 1,600 title later Saturday.
