OHSAA releases softball tournament seedings and brackets

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its brackets for the 2023 state softball tournament on Sunday, and area teams learned where they will begin their tournament runs.

Chillicothe earned the No. 28 seed in the Division I Central bracket, and it will travel to face No. 14 Tri-Valley in its sectional semifinal on May 8.

Unioto, as the No. 2 seed in Division II, earned the highest seeding of any local team across all four divisions. It will host the winner between No. 15 Waverly and No. 18 Marietta on May 10. Waverly will host Marietta in its sectional semifinal on May 8.

Adena was seeded the highest among local Division III schools, earning the No. 3 seed. It will host the winner of the sectional semifinal between No. 22 Crooksville and No. 27 Minford on May 11 in Frankfort. Zane Trace earned the No. 9 seed, and it will host No. 16 Lynchburg-Clay in a sectional final on May 11.

No. 14-seeded Westfall and No. 15-seeded Southeastern will both travel for their sectional final games on May 11, where they will face No. 11 Fairfield and No. 10 Belpre respectively. Piketon, as the No. 18 seed, will host No. 31 Federal Hocking on May 9 in a sectional semifinal, and No. 21 Huntington will host No. 28 South Point in the sectional semifinals.

Paint Valley, as the lone Division IV program in the area, will begin its tournament run in the sectional semifinals as the No. 14 seed in the Southeast 1 bracket. It will host No. 19 Portsmouth Sciotoville on May 8.

All games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on their respective dates.
