Ohio State sophomore Jesse Mendez won the NCAA wrestling championship at 141 pounds on Saturday.

The No. 1 seed, Mendez defeated Penn State’s Beau Bartlett 4-1 to earn Ohio State’s first individual title since Kyle Snyder earned his third-consecutive title at heavyweight in 2018.

Mendez beat Bartlett 4-1 in the Big Ten championship. Bartlett won 4-3 in the regular-season meeting.

Freshman Rocco Welsh also wrestled for a title but lost to Penn State's Carter Starocci 2-0 in the 174-pound fiinal.

The last time Ohio State has had two wrestlers in the finals was in 2019, when Joey McKenna (141), Micah Jordan (149) and Kollin Moore (197) all finished second.

Ohio State finished eighth with 62 points. Penn State won with 172.5 points.

Ohio State 9th at NCAA swim championships

The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team finished tied for ninth at the NCAA Championships, the fourth consecutive year the Buckeyes have finished in the top 10.

The Buckeyes totaled 162 points. Virginia won with 527.5 points.

Ohio State's All-Americans were Hannah Bach, Janie Boyle, Amy Fulmer, Nyah Funderburke, Maya Geringer, Paige Hall, Teresa Ivan, Krista Marlin, Ciara McGing, Josephine Panitz and Katherine Zenick.
