Ohio State women's basketball adds Finnish center Elsa Lemmila to 2024 class

Ohio State women's basketball has added a Finnish center to its 2024 recruiting class.

Elsa Lemmila announced on her Instagram Tuesday that she plans to play collegiately for the Buckeyes.

Lemmila, at 6-foot-6, averaged 12.9 points, nine rebounds and 1.3 assists for Finland's U18 team, which placed seventh in the FIBA Women's European Championship in August.

Then, playing up for the national team during the 2023 FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers, Lemmila averaged 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds over the course of five games.

Lemmila joins Georgia guard Ava Watson, North Carolina forward Ella Hobbs and Cincinnati forward Seini Hicks, whose brother is West Clermont High School 2026 wide receiver and Ohio State football target Chris Henry Jr., in the Buckeyes' 2024 class.

Ohio State has a record of recruiting players from overseas and last year featured two international players on its roster: forward Karla Vres from Zagreb, Croatia, and senior forward Rebeka Mikulasikova of Nitra, Slovakia.

Ohio State added two signees in its 2023 recruiting class in November: 6-foot-4 Michigan center Faith Carson, and Georgia guard Diana Collins.

Ohio State will open its season Nov. 6 against USC at the 2023 Hall of Fame Series at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after making its first Elite Eight appearance in 30 years and finishing as a runner-up at the 2023 Big Ten Tournament.
