Ohio State still very much alive in the College Football Playoff race with latest CFP Rankings

Ohio State may have lost vs. Michigan for the second straight year under Ryan Day, but the Buckeyes got a bit of a win with where they fell in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

To be fair, OSU needs some help, but not all is lost and there’s still a chance to get into the College Football Playoff with just one result. That’s because Ohio State fell only to No. 5, just one spot away from the final four teams, ready to pounce and move up should the USC Trojans lose this coming Friday in Las Vegas. Alternatively, if TCU stumbles in the Big 12 Championship game, that could also open the door, but with a thinner margin perhaps.

The Buckeyes were No. 2 but fell just three spots after Saturday’s performance. The Georgia Bulldogs are No. 1, followed by Michigan which rose to No. 2, TCU rose to No.3, and USC checked in at No. 4.

Ohio State will now sit idly by and root for the Utah Utes to knock off the Trojans for the second time this season. The two staged one of the most entertaining games of the year earlier this season when Utah beat USC 43-42 on Saturday, October 16 in Salt Lake City.

So get your Utah pom-poms out Buckeye fans, because there could be some hope for redemption in the cards still. It also wouldn’t hurt to root for Kansas State to ruin the day of TCU.
