Ohio State men's tennis team reaches NCAA quarterfinals with 4-1 win over Mississippi St.

The top-ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team defeated visiting Mississippi State 4-1 on Saturday in the NCAA tournament Round of 16.

The Buckeyes (33-1) will head to Stillwater, Oklahoma, next weekend in pursuit of its first NCAA title. It is the 18th straight season that Ty Tucker's team has advanced to the NCAA tournament finals site. OSU is 38-0 in NCAA matches at home.

Jack Anthrop clinched the victory at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 victory. He won the tiebreak 7-3 on a service winner. Justin Boulais won easily at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. Robert Cash won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6, though Cannon Kingsley lost at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2.

Alexander Bernard at No. 5 had a couple of match points in the second set before having to go to a tiebreak, which was in progress when Anthrop finished.

J.J. Tracy was ahead in his match at No. 3 6-4, 2-3 when OSU secured the victory over the 16th-seeded Bulldogs.

Ohio State won the doubles point when Cash/Tracy and Kingsley/Anthrop won their sets.

The Buckeyes will play No. 8 Columbia in the quarterfinals Thursday at noon.

Ohio State lost in the finals last year to Virginia, the latest in a series of heartbreaks in the NCAA tournament.
