Ohio State men’s volleyball clinches share of MIVA regular-season title

With a 3-0 sweep of No. 10 Loyola-Chicago, the Ohio State men’s volleyball team has clinched a share of the 2023 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular-season title, its first since 2018.

Ohio State won a tight first set, 29-27, on a Cole Young kill to go up 1-0, then took set two, 28-26, thanks to an error by Loyola to go up 2-0 and on the verge of the upset. Set three would be close too, with the Wramblers going up 3-0 before the Buckeyes tightened things up 6-6 with a 4-1 run. Things would be close from there on out with each going on mini runs, but the Buckeyes would again take the set on a Loyola error, 25-23, to get the straight-set win.

The win was the eighth in a row for Ohio State and drew the Buckeyes even with Loyola-Chicago and Ball State at 11-3 in the conference for a three-way tie for the regular-season crown. The Buckeyes finish the regular-season 19-9 overall and will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MIVA conference tournament. The first-round matchup will be hosted at the Covelli Center.
