Follow along for the latest news, scores and updates from the 2023 Cotton Bowl between Ohio State vs. Missouri.

OSU made offensive line switch due to struggles in practice

Ohio State gave up 10 tackles for loss against Missouri, a game in which Matt Jones made the move to center. Coach Ryan Day explained that the reason that Carson Hinzman didn't play there, as he had been, was because he had struggled in the workouts leading up to the game.

Tristan Gebbia was available for Ohio State

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said that veteran quarterback Tristan Gebbia could have entered the game after Devin Brown got hurt in the Cotton Bowl. The reason he didn't, according to Day, was that Lincoln Kienholz had been taking the snaps in practice, had a skillset that Day felt matched up better against Missouri's defense, and playing Kienholz was a better move for the Buckeyes' future.

Jack Sawyer asked about his future

During OSU's postgame, Jack Sawyer was asked if setting the Buckeyes' record for sacks in a bowl game would make his decision about whether he will enter the NFL draft more difficult. "I'm not even thinking about that right now," he answered.

Devin Brown's injury: high ankle sprain

Ohio State coach Ryan Day told reporters that the injury Devin Brown sustained that knocked him out of the Cotton Bowl was a high ankle sprain.

A little scuffling going on

Although no punches were thrown, indeed no penalties even resulted, multiple Ohio State and Missouri players had to be separated with 1:30 until halftime.

Ohio State has three sacks

With around 6:30 left in the second quarter, OSU's defense has been stout. Four different Buckeyes have tackles for loss. Linebackers Cody Simon and Steele Chambers lead Ohio State with five tackles.

Lincoln Kienholz takes over behind center, gets nod over Tristan Gebbia

Dec 29, 2023; Arlington, Texas, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Lincoln Kienholz (12) replaced injured starting quarterback Devin Brown (33) in the second quarter against Missouri Tigers during the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium.

Ohio State's offense is now being led by freshman signal caller Lincoln Kienholz. As one might expect, the Buckeyes were conservative on his first drive, handing the ball three straight times to TreVeyon Henderson.

OSU also had the option to use veteran QB Tristan Gebbia, a transfer out of Oregon State, but decided against it.

Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown heads to locker room

After initially attempting to play, Devin Brown has since limped back to the OSU locker room.

Ohio State limited since Devin Brown injury

OSU's Devin Brown was sacked for a 7-yard loss on third down, but there were signs before that, that his apparently injured ankle is causing the Buckeyes to alter their game plan.

Also of note, Lincoln Kienholz is warming up on the sideline.

Devin Brown back for Buckeyes

Although he still has a limp, Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown was behind center for the Buckeyes on their first offensive series since his ankle injury appeared to force a timeout. He is wearing new shoes as he takes the field.

The Tigers sacked Devin Brown to help set up a fourth-down play. Although it looked like OSU was originally set to run a trick play with Brown lining up wide, his limp forced coach Ryan Day to call a timeout. On the subsequent play, Jayden Fielding made a 44-yard field goal.

Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown hurt?

Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown was sacked for a 4-yard loss and grabbed at his ankle after the play. He has been limping ever since and OSU called timeout ahead of a fourth-and-3 snap. Then the field goal unit headed out.

Penalties plaguing Ohio State early

Ohio State has had the football twice. They have already been flagged three times, costing them 15 yards. Perhaps unsurprisingly, both drives ended with OSU punts.
