Ohio State Buckeyes receive at-large spot in NCAA men's lacrosse tournament
Ohio State men’s lacrosse has received an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The Buckeyes (10-5) will face seventh-seeded Cornell (11-4) in the first round Sunday in Ithaca, N.Y. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals at Ohio Stadium on May 22.
OSU and Cornell played on March 5 in Ithaca, with the Big Red winning that matchup 14-11.
This will be the second meeting between Ohio State and Cornell in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes won 15-7 in 2008. Cornell leads the series between the schools 4-2.
“We’re thrilled to be able to extend our season and play in the NCAA Tournament,” said OSU coach Nick Myers. “To be in this position is a huge credit to the leadership on this team. They’ve guided us through a very challenging schedule and the gauntlet that is the Big Ten. Having the reward of playing next weekend is significant and we’ll immediately get to work to tackle the task in front of us.”
This will be Ohio State’s seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth under Myers. Previous trips came in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
In each of its past four appearances, Ohio State advanced past the first round. In 2017, the Buckeyes made it to the national championship game for the first time in program history.
