Ohio State adds Marshall to 2024 football schedule as replacement for Washington

Ohio State has added three home games to its non-conference schedule, starting with a game against Marshall in 2024.

The Buckeyes will play the Thundering Herd on Sept. 21 next year. It will be Ohio State’s third game against Marshall. The Buckeyes prevailed 24-21 in 2004 and won 45-7 in 2010.

The Marshall game will take the place of the first of a scheduled two-year home-and-home series against Washington that Ohio State canceled in February at a cost of $500,000. Ohio State will pay Marshall $1.6 million to play.

Ohio State also has added games against Nevada and Charlotte for the 2029 season. The Buckeyes will play the Wolf Pack on Sept. 1 and the 49ers on Sept. 8. Ohio State has never played either team. OSU will pay $1.8 million each to Nevada and Charlotte.

In addition, the Buckeyes have changed the date of next year’s game against Western Michigan from Sept. 21 to Sept. 7. That will follow the season-opener against Southern Mississippi on Aug. 31.
