Jan. 11—SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls O'Gorman junior Bergen Reilly has been named the Gatorade South Dakota volleyball player of the year for 2021-22 on Tuesday.

The state's 2020-21 Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot-1 junior setter and outside hitter led the Knights to a 23-4 record and a second-straight Class AA state championship this past season. Reilly compiled 393 assists, 191 kills, 174 digs, 43 service aces and 29 blocks while posting a kill percentage of .434 and a hitting percentage of .341. She had 91 assists, 15 aces, 36 digs and 29 kills in three matches at the state tournament, including helping the Knights win in five sets in the semifinals and championship matches.

Ranked as the nation's No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2023 by PrepVolleyball.com, Reilly missed eight matches during the season while winning a bronze medal at the Under-18 World Championships in Mexico with the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team.

"Bergen is a one-of-a-kind player," O'Gorman coach Cale Hecht said. "What she does for the team is more than just her stats. I like to describe Bergen as a Swiss Army Knife of volleyball because she is that skilled in all facets."

Reilly is the state's first back-to-back winner of the Gatorade volleyball player of the year award since Sioux Falls Roosevelt middle hitter Maggie DeJong in 2012 and 2013.

She is committed to play college volleyball at the University of Nebraska starting in the fall of 2023.
