NY Giants vs. Rams predictions: Our picks as QB Tyrod Taylor starts over Tommy DeVito

The New York Giants (5-10, 3rd in NFC East) host the Los Angeles Rams (8-7, 2nd in NFC West) in Week 17 at 1 p.m. this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants put up a valiant effort against the Eagles on Christmas Day, but their comeback efforts fell short in a 33-25 loss at Lincoln Financial Field.

Giants coach Brian Daboll announced on Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor will start at quarterback against the Rams, leaving Tommy DeVito on the bench.

Meanwhile, the Rams are well rested after a 30-22 victory over the Saints last Thursday night at SoFi Stadium.

Our prognosticators are: Art Stapleton (Giants/NFL writer, NorthJersey.com), Bert Bainbridge (sports betting analyst/columnist, NorthJersey.com), Steve Edelson (columnist, APP.com), Vince Mercogliano (Rangers/NHL columnist, lohud.com), Brian Marron (digital producer, NorthJersey.com), Chris Iseman (Rutgers writer, NorthJersey.com), Dave Rivera (sports editor, USA Today Northeast/NorthJersey.com) and Bob Jordan (sports editor, Asbury Park Press/APP.com).

Can Tyrod Taylor lead the Giants to an upset over the Rams? Here are our staff predictions for this New Year's Eve game in East Rutherford:

Art Stapleton

Brian Daboll made the move back to Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, but to be honest, this is a bigger picture game for the Giants. The Rams are playing much better and Matthew Stafford has been on a tremendous run as the team has overcome a slow start to get into playoff contention. Plus: Sean McVay's teams have lit up the Giants in their past two trips to MetLife.

The pick: Rams 27, Giants 17

Bert Bainbridge

While the G-Men announced it will be Taylor under center on Sunday, I'm not sure how much it will matter against a Rams team coming into the Meadowlands on fire trying to lock up one of the three wildcard spots in the NFC. The Rams defense is beatable, however, it won't be enough as L.A. leaves the Garden State with a victory for a third consecutive time.

The pick: Rams 28, Giants 17

Bob Jordan

The betting money put the Rams' preseason win total at 6 1/2 and they are already up to 8 wins -- and counting.

The pick: Rams 24, Giants 6

Dave Rivera

Yes, Tyrod Taylor probably gives the Giants a better chance to win now. The question is, what does this mean for Tommy DeVito next season?

The pick: Rams 23, Giants 20

Chris Iseman

Winners of five out of their last six games, the Rams are playing good football and are chasing a playoff spot. Starting Tyrod Taylor instead of Tommy DeVito won't be enough for the Giants.

The pick: Rams 27, Giants 14
