Now You Know: Grace Place’s golf tournament raises over $490,000

Grace Place for Children and Families recently announced that its annual golf tournament, A Swing of Grace, raising over $490,000.

The event was held at Bonita Bay Golf Club on May 7 and benefits the programs and services offered by Grace Place.

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming generosity demonstrated by everyone involved in this year's golf tournament,” said Stacey Vaughn, chief development officer at Grace Place. “The funds raised will ensure that Grace Place can continue to provide educational opportunities and support to children and families facing adversity.”

The tournament brought together golf enthusiasts and philanthropists alike, all rallying behind the cause of supporting children and families in the Golden Gate community.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community,” said Lära Fisher, chief executive officer of Grace Place for Children and Families. “Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of many.”

Chronic disease self-management program at Lee Health

Lee Health’s “It’s All About You,” is offering a research based chronic disease self-management program for the community.

The program is designed for people 18 years of age or older with chronic health conditions to help them learn ways to better manage their chronic conditions and the symptoms that often accompany chronic health conditions.

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book, “Living a Healthier Life with Chronic Conditions.”

The virtual workshop is held once a week for six weeks and it is free. It held from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays, beginning June 12.

Golisano Children’s Museum earns a ‘Blue Star’

Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples will join museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families this summer.

The 2024 program will begin on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18, and end on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.

“We are grateful to CMON for participating in this summer’s Blue Star Museums program and we hope military families will take this opportunity to create meaningful, lifelong memories,” said Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD, chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. “Whether you are traveling this summer, getting to know a new duty location, or exploring what your community has to offer, Blue Star Museums is a wonderful opportunity to create connection and find inspiration.”

Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and participating museums across America.

“Military families love Blue Star Museums, and we couldn’t run this program without the National Endowment for the Arts and the museums across the nation who show they care by participating,” said Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet. “Access to museums enriches military families, creates wonderful family memories, and helps us feel connected to our communities so that we can thrive and do the hard job we have to do for the country. I am delighted for us to launch the 14th year of this very special program.”

The event, which featured a poolside brunch and a ceremonial christening and marked a milestone following the challenges posed by Hurricane Ian.

Eight Member vessels were christened by past commodores. The occasion also served as the unveiling of newly restored sections of the Marina.
