Former UFC champ and fan favorite Miesha Tate is expecting a little “cupcake.”

The retired 31-year-old fighter rang in the new year on Monday by posting news on Instagram that she and fellow fighter Johnny Nunez are expecting a baby daughter in 2018.

Tate had pledged over the summer to keep more of her personal life off social media. Though she never publicly confirmed her breakup with longtime boyfriend, trainer and fellow fighter Bryan Caraway, message boards lit up with rumors that she and Nunez had become an item.

Monday’s Instagram post marked the first time that she publicly acknowledged the relationship.

“There’s this man who has brought joy and happiness into my life in a way I’ve never known before, Johnny thank you for that,” Tate wrote. “I’m proud to announce we are expecting a beautiful baby girl.”

Tate then followed with a paragraph aimed at any social media creeps who might respond in the comments with anything but “congratulations!”

“Now you can sit and speculate… or you can just be happy for us,” Tate wrote. “I’d like to ask that everyone respect the fact that (like we have been) we would like to continue to live our private lives primarily out of the media. I won’t comment on specifics so just know that I am very happy, very excited and my life has never felt so complete.”

Happy New Year everyone! 2016 & 2017 were crazy years full of transitions for me but I’m so happy where I’m at now moving into 2018. I have many things to be grateful for but one stands out in particular, you see there’s this man who has brought joy and happiness into my life in a way I’ve never known before, Johnny thank you for that. I’m proud to announce we are expecting a beautiful baby girl. Now you can sit and speculate… or you can just be happy for us. I’d like to ask that everyone respect the fact that (like we have been) we would like to continue to live our private lives primarily out of the media. I won’t comment on specifics so just know that I am very happy, very excited and my life has never felt so complete. Thank you all for the continued support on this crazy journey we call life!

Tate retired from MMA in November 2016 after losing to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205. She became the bantamweight champion earlier in the year by choking out Holly Holm at UFC 196 but lost it in a submission to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200.

Caraway later took the blame for the Nunes loss.

Nunez is a former Boise State wrestler who has appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter,” but has never earned a UFC contract. He and Tate both train at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas.
