Who was Norma Hunt? Chiefs to honor "The First Lady of Football," with commemorative patch

The Kansas City Chiefs will honor the late Norma Hunt with a commemorative jersey patch for the duration of the 2023-24 season according to team owner (and Norma’s son) Clark Hunt.

Norma, who was a minority owner in the Chiefs, passed away in June of this year at the age of 85.

Players will wear the patch honoring Norma on the right side of the front of their jerseys this year. It will join the other patch every Chiefs jersey has featured on the left side since the 2007 season, one that honors Lamar and the team’s AFL roots.

Who is Norma Hunt?

Some call Norma “The First Lady of Football.” She was the wife of Lamar Hunt, founder of the Chiefs and the man for whom the AFC Championship Trophy is named. Prior to her passing, she was also the only woman who had attended every Super Bowl since its first iteration in 1967. That 57-year streak included the Chiefs’ most recent championship victory this past February.

“It’s going to be really emotional,” Clark said on ESPN’s Good Morning Football on Thursday morning. “To have both of [my parents] represented on the Chiefs jersey, I think it’s a great way to honor and recognize my mom...and how much they enjoyed attending football games throughout their life, and particularly cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.”

The new patch is shaped like a white football with Norma’s initials, NKH, in red block lettering inside.
