Noche UFC video: Bad referee stoppage leads to no contest in Edgar Chairez vs. Daniel Lacerda

LAS VEGAS – Neither Edgar Chairez or Daniel Lacerda is walking out with a win at Noche UFC.

The flyweight contest was ruled a no contest after referee Chris Tognoni mistakenly thought Lacerda was put to sleep by Chairez and waved off the fight prematurely at Saturday’s UFC event, celebrating Mexican Independence Day.

Chairez had Lacerda in a standing guillotine and had him pressed against the cage. Lacerda appeared to go limp for a second, but rather than checking, Tognoni intervened and stopped the fight. Lacerda immediately protested the call.

Video replay was used by cageside officials, and they ruled that Tognoni was in the wrong, ultimately ruling the fight a no contest. Both flyweights were clearly frustrated with the end result.
