No Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani in Philadelphia? Angels stars hurt before Phillies series
First Bruce Springsteen and now another New Jersey legend will miss an appearance in Philadelphia.
The Los Angeles Angels have put outfielder Mike Trout on the 15-day injured list after playing in Tuesday's game against Cincinnati and sitting out Wednesday's doubleheader. The Millville Meteor was activated from the 10-day injured list before Tuesday's game after missing eight weeks with a broken hamate bone in his left hand.
Trout, 32, is hitting .263 with 18 homers and 44 RBIs in 81 games this season.

Will Mike Trout's injury end his season?
Angels general manager Minasian hopes Trout will play again this season, but is uncertain how long he will need to recover from a major injury in his third consecutive season.
“You need your hands to hit,” Minasian said. “It’s a significant injury that he’s coming back from, and the last thing you want is (for) him to start compensating for his hand and doing other things and hurting other body parts.”
There is no greater pain than it being announced that Mike Trout is back on the IL and Ohtani is done pitching this year at the same time

Shohei Ohtani tears UCL; is Tommy John surgery a possibility?
Major League Baseball home run leader and 10-game winner Shohei Ohtani won't be pitching in Philadelphia and there are questions about his ability to even hit when the Angels face the Phillies.
Ohtani won’t pitch for the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in his right elbow, Minasian said Wednesday night.
Brutal news: Shohei Ohtani has a torn UCL and won't pitch for the rest of the season, the #Angels announce. It’s unknown whether surgery is required.

The Angels don’t yet know whether Ohtani will need surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament for the second time. Ohtani had his first Tommy John surgery in late 2018, following his AL Rookie of the Year season.
The two-way superstar left the mound abruptly in the second inning of his start against Cincinnati on Wednesday after throwing 26 pitches in the opener of a doubleheader. Ohtani, who hit his 44th homer in the first inning, then insisted on playing in the nightcap even after the tear was discovered while running tests between games.

Ohtani plans to get second opinions on whether surgery is necessary, Minasian said.
Minasian isn’t sure whether his two-way superstar will continue to chase the major league home run crown while serving as their designated hitter this year, but those plans were secondary to the importance of Ohtani's long-term health.
