No. 1 LSU women's basketball vs. Queens: Live updates as LSU unveils NCAA title banner

It didn't take long for No. 1 LSU women's basketball to be emphatically brought back down to earth.

The Tigers (0-1), opening this season ranked on top for the first time in program history, became the first team in nearly 30 years to lose their season opener after coming off winning the NCAA championship.

No. 20 Colorado manhandled LSU, 92-78, at the Hall of Fame Classic in Las Vegas on Monday night.

As Kim Mulkey put it after the game, LSU was outplayed and out-physicaled the entire game against the Buffs.

"(For us) the effort was not even there," Mulkey said after the loss. "You live with poor shooting, you live with just a tough night. What I don't live with is just guts, fight and physical play. You got that dog in you.

"I just didn't think we had that tonight. You needed more to have that fight within."

The Tigers' home opener against Queens (N.C.) is the perfect get-right spot for the team Thursday night (7 p.m., SEC Network+). The team will receive its national championship rings and the program will unveil the championship banner inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center prior to the start of the game.

Queens (0-1) dropped its season opener at No. 12 Ole Miss, 91-44. Coach Yolette McPhee-McCuin's teams dominated the Royals in the first game.
