NJSIAA releases new wrestling district and region alignments: See where area teams moved

The NJSIAA released the new district and region alignments Thursday intended to spread out the state’s power programs with an emphasis on the non-public teams.

The top three finishers in the 32 districts advance to the one of the eight region tournaments. The top four in each region qualify for the state individual tournament at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

Wrestling teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference, Hunterdon County and Somerset County were impacted.

Among the big moves from area schools:

∎ St. Joseph-Metuchen moves from Region 5 and a district with Old Bridge to Region 4 and District 15 that includes South Plainfield.

∎ Hunterdon Central and North Hunterdon move into District 14 in Region 4. Hunterdon Central was a longtime host of Region 5 in the past, though Franklin hosted the tournament in 2023.

Delaware Valley moves to Region 3 and District 10

∎ St. Thomas Aquinas moves to Region 2 and District 8

∎ Monroe moves from Region 6 to Region 5. The Falcons had been the only GMC team not in either Region 4 or Region 5 the past few seasons. Monroe is now in District 20

∎ State power Delbarton moves into Region 5 with several area teams and was placed in District 17
