Nina Lopez tops 2023-24 All-Space Coast Girls Soccer team

Edgewood's girls soccer team had a season to remember after making an appearance in the Class 3A state championship game for the first time in program history.

Over the past few seasons, Edgewood has cemented itself as one of the dominant teams in the area. As a key player of Edgewood's midfield, Nina Lopez played a large role in the Red Wolves having a dominant season, and she is once again the FLORIDA TODAY Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

The work Lopez did throughout the season could be seen all over the field. Whether she was regaining possession of the ball for her team defensively or helping her team set up for a goal, Lopez was a consistent part of Edgewood's continued success throughout her high school career.

As a holding midfielder, Lopez finished the season with seven goals and six assists. To go along with finishing as Class 3A state runner-up, Edgewood (14-3-2) won district, region, and Cape Coast Conference titles this season.

Sophie Boss, Senior, Viera: The senior defender anchored a defense that only allowed opponents to score seven goals all season.

Gianna Buysse, Senior, Viera: Buysse scored 16 goals and assisted on four more for the Hawks.

Nina Lopez, Senior, Edgewood: As a holding midfielder, Lopez finished the year with seven goals and six assists.

Gianna Lopez, Junior, Edgewood: The junior led the Class 3A state runner-up in goals with 13 and added seven assists this season.

Finley McDuffie, Junior, Merritt Island: McDuffie led the Mustangs in goals and assists with 13 and nine, respectively.

Eva McMenemy-Hoang, Freshman, Viera: The freshman had 12 goals and six assists in the 2023-24 season.

Piper Miller, Senior, Edgewood: Part of a defensive backline that helped lead the Red Wolves to their first state final. She also added one goal and three assists.

JoHannah Peterson, Senior, Melbourne: The senior defender was an essential player for Melbourne this season.

Emma Ramsey, Senior, Edgewood: The goalkeeper made 77 saves and had nine shutouts in the 2023-24 season.

Elizabeth Steinmetz, Senior, Edgewood: Steinmetz was a key player for Class 3A state runner-up Edgewood on defense this season.

Hailey Thibodeau, Freshman, Space Coast: Thibodeau scored 23 goals and had five assists for the Vipers this season.

Andrea Toledo, Senior, Edgewood: Toledo scored 12 goals and had seven assists for the Edgewood Red Wolves.

Julianna Trujillo, Senior, Merritt Island: The goalkeeper made 69 saves for Merritt Island this season. Trujillo also scored four goals and assisted on more.

Reese Ura, Senior, Satellite: Ura led the district champion Scorpions with 22 goals and 13 assists.

Brooke Voorhees, Junior, Titusville: The junior tallied 23 goals and eight assists for the Terriers.

Emme Henkel, Senior, Satellite: As a defender, Henkel helped lead the Scorpions to their fifth straight district title and to the regional final game.
