It started with a Toronto Maple Leafs fan throwing his jersey on the ice after a loss to the San Jose Sharks on Friday.

A day later, it escalated to a point where Mike Babcock was trending on Twitter following a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After yet another defeat on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes — who owned the Leafs before the puck even dropped by featuring David Ayres in their pre-game entertainment — Leafs supporters just seem sick of it all.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe and Toronto players tried to keep a positive attitude post-game, but those words are falling on deaf ears for a fan base that has watched its team underachieve year after year.

Coming off yet another first-round playoff exit last season, this time by blowing a 3-1 series lead against the rival Montreal Canadiens, the Leafs have stumbled out of the gate in 2021-22 with a record of 2-4-1. There are still 75 games remaining for Toronto to right the ship, but the club doesn't have the luxury of playing in the all-Canadian division this year and will have to fight much harder just to make it to the postseason.

Auston Matthews and Co. better hope they can heat up quickly, or they'll risk alienating even more of the impatient, restless fanbase. Here's some of the best social media reaction from Monday's loss.
