(Adds late games) Jan 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League games. - - Capitals 4, Rangers 3 (overtime) Alex Ovechkin scored the 498th and 499th goals of his career -- including the overtime winner -- as the Washington Capitals rallied for a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers at a Madison Square Garden on Saturday. - - Flyers 4, Islanders 0 The Philadelphia Flyers outplayed the New York Islanders from the opening faceoff to the final buzzer in a 4-0 win at Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers were the aggressors from the get-go, outshooting the Islanders 11-2 after one period before breaking through for two second-period goals and earning their third straight win. - - Sharks 7, Maple Leafs 0 Tomas Hertl scored two goals, goaltender Martin Jones made 28 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the San Jose Sharks rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at SAP Center. Brent Burns, Matt Nieto, Joe Pavelski, Melker Karlsson and Joonas Donskoi also scored for the Sharks (19-18-2), who set a season high for goals in a game. - - Penguins 3, Canadiens 1 Bryan Rust scored his first goal of the season to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Patric Hornqvist and Eric Fehr also scored for Pittsburgh (20-16-5), who snapped a two-game losing streak. - - Hurricanes 4, Blue Jackets 3 (overtime) The Carolina Hurricanes lost their grip on a three-goal lead against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but escaped Nationwide Arena with a 4-3 victory after Jordan Staal scored in overtime. Staal poked the puck around Blue Jackets Brandon Saad in the Carolina end, skated the length of the ice and beat Blue Jackets rookie goaltender with a wrist shot at 2:45. - - Senators 2, Bruins 1 (overtime) Mark Stone scored off his own rebound on a wraparound attempt with 37.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a 2-1 win over Boston at Canadian Tire Centre. The win moved the Senators into the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. - - Wild 2, Stars 1 Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk stopped 34 of 35 shots and winger Thomas Vanek scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Vanek's 13th goal of the season at 11:20 of the second period came when Stars center Cody Eakin tried to clear the puck from the Dallas zone but struck the stick of Charlie Coyle. Vanek gathered in the slot and beat goaltender Antti Niemi. - - Coyotes 4, Predators 0 Arizona center Antoine Vermette scored his 200th career goal and Tobias Rieder had two goals and an assist in the Coyotes' 4-0 victory over the Nashville Predators at Gila River Arena. Vermette got his sixth goal of the season on a power play late in the second period, and Rieder had two goals in the third as the Coyotes (21-16-4) won their third straight and seventh in their last 10 games. - - Lightning 3, Canucks 2 (overtime) Nikita Kucherov scored on a breakaway in overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Canucks center Henrik Sedin got caught in a line change, allowing Kucherov to take a pass from defenseman Vladislav Namestnikov and beat Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom with low shot with 1:09 left in overtime. - - Blues 2, Kings 1 (shootout) Blues galtender Brian Elliott made 26 saves and Troy Brouwer scored the winner in a shootout as St. Louis defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1. St. Louis (24-14-7) snapped a five-game losing streak and salvaged one of three games on their road trip.
