NHL-Highlights of Friday's NHL games

(Adds late games) Nov 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's National Hockey League games. - - - Penguins 4, Islanders 3 The Pittsburgh Penguins twice squandered two-goal leads against the New York Islanders at the Consol Energy Center before captain Sidney Crosby took advantage of some slack defending to secure a 4-3 victory for the hosts. Crosby scored the winner when he was inexplicably left all alone in front of the net with 1:16 remaining in regulation. After taking a pass from winger Pascal Dupuis from behind the net, Crosby pushed his 250th career goal past Kevin Poulin to seal the game for the Penguins. - - - Canadiens 3, Capitals 2 Washington's Alex Ovechkin maintained his excellent early season form but two goals from the Capitals captain were not enough to overcome the Montreal Canadiens, who made the most of a fine performance from goaltender Peter Budaj. Ovechkin scored his league-leading 18th and 19th goals of the season but Budaj turned aside 25-of-27 shots to lead the Canadiens to a 3-2 win at Verizon Center. The Canadiens sprinted to a 3-0 lead on goals by left winger Travis Moen, and centers David Desharnais and Danny Briere, then had to hold off Ovechkin, who scored in the final minute of the first period and drew Washington within one goal with 7:33 remaining in the third. The win was the second straight for the Canadiens (12-9-2) as the Capitals (12-10-1) lost for the second straight game. - - - Flames 4, Panthers 3 (SO) Two shootouts for Sean Monahan. Two game-winning goals. The Calgary Flames rookie center, who has been the biggest positive in an already difficult season, was the hero yet again for the Calgary Flames in a 4-3 shootout win over the Florida Panthers. Monahan, who scored the winner a few games earlier in Winnipeg, ripped a top-shelf effort in the sixth round for the difference-making tally. The Flames improved to 8-11-4 while the Panthers are 6-13-5. - - - Canucks 6, Blue Jackets 2 The Vancouver Canucks exploded for three goals in 2:10 to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-2 at Rogers Arena to end a five-game losing skid. Held to just six goals in their past five games (0-3-2), the Canucks opened the tap with 16 seconds remaining in the first period. Down 1-0 left winger Daniel Sedin scored from a tight angle short-side on Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and then the Canucks opened the floodgates in the second period. - - - Ducks 1, Lightning 0 (OT) Anaheim came away with a 1-0 overtime win in a goalies duel against Tampa Bay and pushed its home record to 9-0-1 this season. Center Ryan Getzlaf capped off a tense evening when he managed to score the game winning goal with only 5.2 seconds remaining in the extra session. - - - (Editing by John O'Brien/Amlan Chakraborty)
