NHL: Blackhawks claim NH's Sanford off waivers

Jan. 7—New Hampshire's Zach Sanford has joined his seventh team after he was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago made several moves in addition to claiming Sanford in the aftermath of star rookie Connor Bedard suffering a broken jaw, resulting in a spot on injured reseve.

The 6-foot-4, 206-pound Sanford, a Green Acres Elementary School, Pinkerton Academy and Boston College product, skated in 11 games and tallied two assists for Arizona this season.

The 29-year-old has racked up 49 goals and 51 assists in 316 regular-season NHL games, split between the Washington Capitals (2016-17), St. Louis Blues (2017-21), Ottawa Senators (2021-22), Winnipeg Jets (2022), Nashville Predators (2022-23) and Coyotes (2023-24).
