NFL mock draft: LSU football QB Jayden Daniels skyrockets up 2024 NFL draft boards

Several quarterbacks have been projected to go early in the 2024 NFL draft and recent NFL mock draft projections have another quarterback joining them toward the top of the first-round order.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels, a senior, completed 236 of his 327 attempts (72.2%) for 3,812 yards this season. He threw for 40 touchdowns and had just four passes intercepted.

He also rushed 135 times for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He is a favorite for the Heisman Trophy and he is rising up the draft boards in several 2024 NFL mock draft projections, where he is ranked as high as No. 5, potentially giving QB-needy NFL teams another early first-round option behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

Check out what NFL writers are saying about Daniels, who started his collegiate career at Arizona State, in recent 2024 NFL mock draft projections.

The Athletic: Jayden Daniels goes to Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 7

Dane Brugler writes: "Offensively and defensively, the Buccaneers are a middle-of-the-road team, and they’ll have several interesting roster decisions to make this offseason. For one, Tampa Bay will be in the mix to select this draft’s QB3, and Daniels could be it. He has a dynamic skill set to create explosive plays with his arm and legs. At the beginning of the season, I wouldn’t have guessed that Daniels would appear in the top 10 of my first mock draft. But in studying his tape and seeing his continual improvements, you start to run out of reasons why he doesn’t belong. I think several teams slotted in the top 10 will think the same way."

Sports Illustrated: Jayden Daniels picked by New York Giants at No. 6

Luke Easterling writes: "The Giants have plenty of needs, but nothing matters without the right quarterback. Yes, they just gave Daniel Jones a big contract extension, but he'll be coming off a torn ACL, and his dead cap number will be manageable if they move on after 2024. Daniels has been the most dynamic player in all of college football this season, and his growth as a passer this season has launched him into the top-10 conversation."

The 33rd Team: Jayden Daniels selected by New York Giants at No. 6

Connor Livesay writes: "LSU QB Jayden Daniels has stormed into the top-10 conversation with a Heisman-worthy performance in 2023. Showing the ability to win with his arm and his legs, Daniels has been one of college football’s most exciting quarterbacks and someone the New York Giants should consider. Daniels does not have the track record that Caleb Williams or Drake Maye has, so he likely won’t be considered ahead of them, but he has been more impressive than either of them in 2023."

CBS Sports: Jayden Daniels drafted by New York Giants at No. 5

Chris Trapasso writes: "Daniels is the front-runner for the Heisman and a fun, electrifying draft prospect who's going to fly up boards. The Giants must address quarterback. Now."

Walter Football: Jayden Daniels taken by Atlanta Falcons at No. 19

It writes: "The Falcons may realize that Desmond Ridder can only take them so far. They could be interested in a quarterback with this pick. Jayden Daniels is an accurate passer and a dangerous runner who possesses a quality arm."

Sportsnaut: Jayden Daniels ends up with Minnesota Vikings at No. 20

Matt Johnson writes: "With some of the top defensive options off the board, the Minnesota Vikings finally snag their quarterback of the future. There’s some risk in spending a first-round pick on breakout quarterbacks, but Jayden Daniels also flashed these skills at Arizona State and late last season with LSU. Daniels has made remarkable progress as a passer and with a year of development under Kevin O’Connell, he can thrive in Minnesota."
