NFL draft position rankings: Where is Georgia WR Ladd McConkey?

Georgia football is expected to send a large number of players through the 2024 NFL draft in April, adding to an NFL-record 25 picks over the last two seasons.

At the top of the list are tight end Brock Bowers and offensive tackle Amarius Mims. Both are projected as first-round picks. Secondary defenders Kamari Lassiter and Javon Bullard will likely hear their names early as well.

What about UGA wide receiver Ladd McConkey? ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. recently updated his position rankings and included McConkey among the top 10 wideout prospects. Kiper has McConkey ranked No. 9.

McConkey worked his way up the depth chart at Georgia after having only a few Division I offers out of North Murray High School in Chatsworth, Georgia. Over the last three seasons, McConkey has been a unique weapon for the Bulldogs. In 39 games, he accumulated 1,687 yards on 119 receptions with 14 touchdowns. He has also contributed on the ground with 216 yards on 13 carries and four scores.

Injuries hindered McConkey’s performance during his junior season, limiting him to nine games. Despite this setback, McConkey made a difference whenever he was on the field.

Kiper provided an evaluation of McConkey after UGA’s victory over Florida in October. He emphasized McConkey’s quickness, hands and blocking ability. Kiper also highlighted McConkey’s punt return skills, with an average of 13.3 yards per attempt in 2021. Kiper gave McConkey a grade of second- or third-round talent.

McConkey’s versatility will be an appealing factor for NFL teams looking to add a valuable contributor. His final play as a Bulldog came in poetic fashion: a 27-yard scamper for a touchdown on a broken trick play in the Orange Bowl.

The 2024 NFL draft is scheduled to take place from April 25-27 in Detroit.
