Trending: Alabama is king of the SEC West

There is no denying who the King of the SEC West is. Alabama. The Crimson Tide have a running winning streak against every team from the division and once again Alabama has been selected by preseason magazines and college football analysts to again run the table during the 2017 season.

For Alabama, the standard each year is to win the SEC West, something they have done for the last three seasons, then win the SEC Championship, which they have accomplished five times since the 2009 season.

Looking Ahead

Over the last fives seasons, Alabama is 26-4 against the SEC West. During the 2016 season alone, Alabama outscored the SEC West by a combined score of 221-102 which translates to an average margin of victory of 39-17.

While no prediction made in the month of May for the 2017 season is safe, Alabama’s conference dominance of the SEC West is likely to continue and their conference schedule bodes well for them looking ahead.

Following an away conference game against Vanderbilt, Alabama will host Ole Miss on September 30 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Ole Miss, who was 5-7 during the 2016 season returns just five offensive starters and six defensive starters to a team that struggled against the rush last year allowing 246.3-yards per game (120 in the Nation).

Alabama will then head to College Station, Texas for an away game against Texas A&M. Kyle Field is no cake-walk, but Alabama’s offense has posted a total of 90 points during their last two visits and it’s been since 2012 that the Aggies defeated the Crimson Tide. Arkansas then comes to Tuscaloosa on October 14. Alabama is currently riding a nine-game winning streak against Arkansas dating back to the 2008 season and the last time Arkansas won in Tuscaloosa dates back to 2003.

*Projected Depth Chart

Following a home game against Tennessee is LSU on November 4th. The game also follows a well-timed bye week during the weekend of October 28, so Alabama will have an extra week to nurse mid-season injuries and to prepare for the Tigers, a team Alabama has beaten in six straight matchups dating back to 2012. The Crimson Tide then hit the road to travel to Starkville, Mississippi to face Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs have really struggled against Alabama losing their last nine in a row, the last two matchups have been 51-3 and 31-6. Alabama’s final SEC West game is against Auburn on November 15th. The Thanksgiving Iron Bowl could absolutely go either way and Auburn will be gunning for the Crimson Tide, as Alabama has won the last three in-state rivalry games.
