Saints acquire Ruud from Seahawks

Linebacker Barrett Ruud was acquired by the Saints, who sent an undisclosed future draft pick to the Seahawks.

Ruud was signed by Seattle after the Seahawks' starting middle linebacker, David Hawthorne, signed with New Orleans in free agency. The Seahawks then drafted Bobby Wagner in April, and the rookie has started the first two preseason games and had clearly won the job.

Hawthorne is playing outside for the Saints, with Curtis Lofton expected to start in the middle should Jonathan Vilma's year-long suspension be upheld.

Ruud played for six seasons in Tampa Bay before joining the Tennessee Titans last year. Ruud, 28, made more than 100 tackles in a season twice for Tampa Bay. He played nine games and made 57 tackles for Tennessee last year.
