Penn State, Pitt add matchups in 2018, '19
Penn State and Pitt have agreed to play two additional games later this decade.
The schools announced Friday that they will meet on the football field on Sept. 8, 2018, at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh and on Sept. 14, 2019, in State College, Pa.
Last year, Penn State and Pitt scheduled a two-game series in 2016-2017 after the longtime rivals had not played since 2000.
"Regional rivalries in college football are special," Penn State coach Bill O'Brien said. "I have been involved in a few as a coach. Penn State versus Pitt is a rivalry rich with history and tradition."
Penn State leads the all-time series dating to 1893 at 50-42-4.
"As one of the greatest rivalries in college football history, a further extension of the Pitt-Penn State series is special," Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said. "This is a great day for the players, for the fans and for the entire state."
Penn State's program is in the midst of sanctions resulting from the Jerry Sandusky scandal that include a four-year bowl ban and scholarship reductions.
