Morgan State 67, Liberty 62

Morgan State junior guard Justin Black nearly produced a triple-double while leading the Bears over host Liberty 67-62 in a non-conference game Wednesday night in Lynchburg, Va.

Black finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and nine assists as the Bears, in the midst of a seven-game road swing, improved to 2-3.

The closely contested game had 16 lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team enjoyed a lead larger than seven points until Morgan State went ahead by nine with 1:10 remaining.

After Liberty (0-7) took its largest lead at 44-37 with 16:13 left in the second half, the Flames went almost five minutes without scoring. Morgan State scored nine unanswered points to take a two-point lead.

Tomasz Gielo's baseline jumper ended the Liberty drought with 11:37 remaining in regulation. After Gielo's basket, neither team had more than a three-point lead for more than seven minutes.

Dewayne Jackson's breakaway dunk put Morgan State ahead 57-52 --matching the Bears' biggest lead at the time -- with 4:09 left in regulation. Liberty never drew closer than five points afterward.

Anthony Hubbard finished with 16 points to lead Morgan State, and Jackson added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals. Casey Roberts led Liberty with 15 points.

Morgan State, which does not play at home again until Jan. 5, next plays at Virginia Military Institute on Saturday. Liberty hosts Georgia State on Sunday.
