Miguel Tejada released by Orioles

Miguel Tejada, the 2002 American League MVP, requested and was granted his release from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday after playing in 36 games at Class AAA Norfolk.

The 38-year-old Tejada, who was batting .259 with five doubles, no homers and 18 RBIs for Norfolk, did not have an opt-out clause in his contract. His departure follows that of left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer, who exercised his opt-out clause and left Norfolk over the weekend.

Tejada had signed a Minor League deal on May 8. In 2011, he hit .239 in 96 games for the Giants, who released him last September.
