Justin Salas Out to Injury, Edson Barboza Draws Newcomer at UFC on FX 7

Edson Barboza has a new opponent for his home turf fight at UFC on FX 7, according to UFC officials.

Barboza was slated to fight Justin Salas on Jan. 19 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but Salas fell out of the bout due to injury. He is now set to face newcomer Lucas Martins.

Barboza enters the fight coming off of a TKO loss to Jamie Varner back in May at UFC 146 in Las Vegas. That marked the first defeat of his career, so he’ll be looking to get back on the winning track in his home country.

The home field advantage won’t really play in his favor, however, as Martins is a fellow Brazilian.

Martins promises to make it a difficult fight anyway.

He’s never fought outside of Brazil, but the Chute Boxe fighter has been very successful, racking up 11 victories with no losses en route to the Octagon.

Martins is coming off of a head-kick knockout at December’s Jungle Fight event in Sao Paulo.

Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping headlines UFC on FX 7 on Jan. 19 at the Ibirapuera Arena.
