Furyk among 4 players added to U.S. Ryder Cup team

Jim Furyk was among the four players U.S. Ryder Cup team captain Davis Love III added to the American team that will face Europe in the 39th Ryder Cup matches, to be held Sept. 28-30 at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.

Davis' four captain's choices will join the eight automatic qualifiers for the U.S. team.

Besides picking Furyk, who will be making his eighth Ryder Cup appearance, Davis chose Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker.

The steady Stricker was expected to be named and he enjoys playing with Tiger Woods. Johnson has been playing well lately, and Snedeker is considered one of the best putters on the PGA Tour.

Among the presumed contenders not picked were Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler and Nick Watney.

The eight automatic qualifiers for the U.S. team, based on their performances in 2012, are Woods, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson.
