Ed Herman Welcomes Trevor Smith to the Octagon at UFC on Fox 8

Ed Herman Draws New Opponent, Remains on UFC 167 Fight Card

The UFC on Fox 8 fight card is nearly full, gaining its eleventh bout on Friday.

Strikeforce import Trevor Smith will make his promotional debut at UFC on Fox 8, stepping into the Octagon with UFC veteran Ed Herman. UFC officials on Friday announced the middleweight bout.

Smith (10-3) enters the Octagon with a lot to prove. He went 3-2 during his Strikeforce tenure, which is respectable, but he has lost two of his last three fights, including his most recent bout.

Tim Kennedy submitted Smith in the third round of their fight at the final Strikeforce event, which took place earlier this year in January.

Herman (20-9) has been fighting in the UFC since 2006, making his way to the promotion via the third season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series.

After missing all of 2010 due to a knee injury, Herman returned with a fury, reeling off three consecutive victories. He then lost a unanimous decision to Jake Shields at UFC 150, but that fight was eventually ruled a no contest due to Shields testing positive for an illegal substance that was not publicly identified.

Herman’s last trip to the Octagon didn’t fair any better, losing via a Kimura submission to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, another Strikeforce transplant.

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson headlines the UFC on Fox 8 fight card, putting his belt on the line against John Moraga on July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle.
