Dada 5000 Claims He Had Two Heart Attacks and Died in the Bellator Cage

Dada 5000 (real name Dhafir Harris) posted on social media on Wednesday to let everyone know just how grave his health situation was when he fought Kimbo Slice (real name Kevin Ferguson) at Bellator 149 on Feb. 19 in Houston, Texas.

Following the bout Dada 5000 was transported to a local Houston hospital suffering from severe dehydration, fatigue, and renal failure.

“The Harris Family would like to inform Dada’s friends and fans that Dada is ok and resting comfortably in a Houston area Hospital under the care of an incredible staff of doctors and nurses,” his family said in a statement at the time. “The doctors have now informed us that Dada had accumulated extremely high levels of potassium in his blood which led to severe dehydration, fatigue and renal failure. The high potassium levels were likely caused by his 40-pound weight loss in preparation for the fight.”

On Wednesday, Dada 5000 reiterated that he had renal failure during the fight, but added that he suffered two heart and coded, or died, during the fight.

“Yes, I trained very hard for this fight and I was in fighting shape. But those who knew me, they knew something wasn’t right by the look in my eyes when I stepped into that ring,” Dada 5000 wrote on Instagram.

“Yes, I did have kidney failure during the fight. I also had two heart attacks, which I did code, aka died, during the fight… which put me in Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas, for more than three weeks after the fight, just to come back to Miami to continue treatment at South Miami Hospital. Thank you for all your prayers and support. I will make a full recovery and be back bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. That much you can count on.”

There is no independent confirmation of Dada 5000's claims as of the time of publication, and his Instagram post was deleted a short time later. The fighter also noted in his post that he would be doing several interviews regarding the matter.
