The Cleveland Browns announced Wednesday that they have signed free agent punter Spencer Lanning.
It's Lanning's second stint with the Browns, having been in training camp last season before being waived in late August. He would go on to spend brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.
Lanning originally signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on July 26, 2011. A former four-year letterman at the University of South Carolina, he averaged 42.6 yards per punt on 171 attempts, including 46 punts that landed inside opponents' 20-yeard-line.
A native of suburban Charlotte, N.C., Lanning also has experience as a placekicker, making 34 of 44 field goals and 80 of 84 point-after touchdown attempts while with the Gamecocks.
