Joe Mahoney - Times Dispatch

TCU Basketball filled it's last remaining spot today with the addition of Ahmed Hamdy, a graduate transfer from Virginia Commonwealth. Hamdy will be eligible immediately and will have one year remaining to play for the Horned Frogs.

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 5.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in just 13.2 minutes per this year for VCU. Hamdy began his career at Houston, but redshirted his freshman year due to playing an extra year of high school when he transferred to Trent Internationale in Houston after moving to the U.S. at age 16 from Egypt to play against better competition. Hamdy played his sophomore year at Lee College in Baytown, TX where he averaged 16.2 ppg and 10.7 rpg while shooting 54.5% from the field. The last two years he played at VCU and averaged 5.6 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game.

He's already got some experience against Big 12 competition as well, having scored 14 against Baylor last season. He shows a soft jump hook and is physical around the basket. He will be a nice complementary piece behind Vladimir Brodziansky for the Frogs in 2017-18.

The scouting report I got from TCU alum Marcus Sloan, who coached Hamdy with the Houston Defenders in AAU was that Hamdy is a "Solid, physical player. He's hard-working and will provide a physical inside presence on offense."

The final recruiting class for 2017 now includes:

C - Kevin Samuel

PF - Ahmed Hamdy (VCU) One year eligible

PF - Andre Pierce (Lee College) Two years eligible

SF - Lat Mayan (Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra, AUS)

SG - R.J. Nembhard (Keller HS)

SG - Shawn Olden (New Mexico JC) Two years eligible

TCU lost four seniors to graduation (Michael Williams, Chris Washburn, Brandon Parrish and Karviar Shepherd) and two tranfers (Malique Trent and Josh Parrish) from their 2017 NIT Championship team.
