Newark Catholic football moving back up to Division VI

COLUMBUS — The Newark Catholic football team is moving up.

The Green Wave will be back in Division VI next fall. The 2023 divisional and regional assignments were released Wednesday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

NC, the three-time reigning Division VII regional champions, will be back in Division VI for the first time since 2018. Northridge also returns to Division VI, returning from Division V to join Region 23, which will include Fort Frye, Bellaire and West Jefferson.

None of the other Licking County football schools will change divisions or regions.

Newark remains in Division I, Licking Heights and Watkins Memorial Division II, Granville Division III, Licking Valley, Lakewood and Johnstown Division IV and Heath and Utica Division V.
