New York Red Bulls' Dru Yearwood issued red card after hitting fans with frustrated kick into stands

New York Red Bulls midfielder Dru Yearwood found a way to make a 2-0 home loss even worse.

As the clock ticked down on a Philadelphia Union win over the Red Bulls, a visibly frustrated Yearwood forcefully kicked the ball away during a break in play. Unfortunately for Yearwood and everyone else involved, that ball went straight into the Red Bull Arena stands.

The ball appeared to glance off one fan, a child, then directly hit another fan, a young woman, in the face. Yearwood immediately ran into the stands to try to apologize, but was turned away by a person who was sitting with the female fan. The surrounding fans serenaded him with "a**hole" chants as he went back to the field.

The incident left Yearwood with a red card, the young woman with blood visibly dripping from her mouth and the child crying.

Two minutes later, the Union finished the 2-0 win to improve to an MLS-best 17-9-4.

The 22-year-old Yearwood, a native of Harlow, England, is in his third season with the Red Bulls, joining the team in 2020 after previous stints with Brentford and Southend United.

Receiving a red card means Yearwood will receive at least a one-game suspension, but we'll see if MLS opts to add anything onto that.
