Nets signing Harry Giles III
The Nets are signing Harry Giles, his agent, Daniel Hazan of Hazan Sports Management confirmed to SNY.
Hazan told SNY that Giles chose Brooklyn over two other suitors that had strong interest in the big man.
Hazan told SNY that the Nets showed interest in Giles throughout the offseason. They were among a large group of teams that Giles III worked out in front of.
Giles should have an opportunity to earn a roster spot with Brooklyn. The Nets seem to need front-line depth. They have four players on the roster listed at 6-foot-10 and over: Ben Simmons, Nic Claxton, Day’Ron Sharpe and rookie Noah Clowney. Simmons is expected to play point guard this season.
The specifics of Giles contract are unknown. Giles is eligible for a two-way contract and the Nets have an open two-way spot. They have 15 players on NBA deals (which is the maximum allowed during the regular season.
Giles, 25, most recently worked out with the Golden State Warriors Aug. 8.
His latest season was the 2021-22 campaign with the Agua Caliente Clippers of the Los Angeles Clippers. He suffered a season-ending injury Jan. 23, 2022, and the Clippers waived him.
Giles' 2020-21 season came with the Portland Trail Blazers. In 38 games, Giles averaged 2.8 points and 3.5 rebounds over 9.8 minutes.
From 2018-20 with the Sacramento Kings, Giles averaged seven points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.3 minutes while starting 17 of 104 games. The Kings selected Giles from Duke with the 2017 NBA Draft's No. 20 overall pick.
