Nets’ Mikal Bridges scores 10 points in Team USA’s 85-73 win over Montenegro

Team USA played its first game of the second round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup on Friday against Montenegro and won 85-73. The Americans are now 4-0 in the World Cup thus far.

For Team USA, Anthony Edwards had 17 points and three rebounds while Austin Reaves had 12 points and three steals off the bench. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 11 points and Tyrese Haliburton had 10 points off the pine.

For Montenegro, Nikola Vucevic had 18 points and 16 rebounds while Kendrick Perry had 14 points and six assists. Marko Simonovic had nine points and Nikola Ivanovic had nine points off the bench.

In what was one of the biggest tests that Team USA has faced throughout the course of this summer’s FIBA competition, the Americans found a way to pull away from Montenegro in the second half thanks to a defense that picked up steam in the third quarter. Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges had 10 points, two rebounds, and two steals while Cam Johnson did not play in the contest.
