Nets’ Cam Thomas discusses his scoring ability, Sean Marks, Nic Claxton, and more

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas is one of the fan favorites on the team due to his ability to score points in bunches while being one of the more unintentionally-funny players in the NBA. Thomas will be going into his third year in the league this upcoming season, but it seems that his role as a bench scorer will remain the same.

Thomas, 21, has had an interesting career to this point as he has proven that he can score the ball with the best of them when he gets the opportunity, but his chances to play starters minutes come few and far between. He started four games out of 57 games played last season and when he started, Thomas exploded for huge games.

As it stands now, the only way that Thomas will get big minutes again will be if enough players in the starting lineup are not playing for some reason. Recently, Thomas appeared on Zach Schumaker’s “The Schuz Show” to discuss various topics and here are some of the quotes from the hour-long interview:

Thomas On How Much He Would Average As The Lead Scoring Option

“Ball in my hands? 25 (points per game), no doubt. Easy. And, that’s just me knowing my ability and knowing what I can bring every night. Because I see the little stats on Twitter some games, they’d be like, you know, when Cam Thomas plays this certain amount of minutes, he averages 30. Or, he plays this amount of games with this amount of minutes, he averages 25. If I had the ability to play the ball in my hand, make the decisions, all that stuff, I feel like I can average 25 points a game, easy.”

Thomas On His Relationship With Nets GM Sean Marks

“I feel like it’s a good relationship. He (Marks) knows talent. You know, that’s the main thing, you got to put players on the team that can help. I feel like he’s done a great job of identifying players in certain roles so, I feel like he’s one of the best at his job, you know? And, I’m glad that he’s our GM honestly. So, you know we’re in a good spot, we have a good place to go and good place to build on for years to come because I feel like you know you got (Nic) Claxton. Claxton can be an All-Star type Center because, I think he was like then he was like like fourth or fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting or something like that, that’s big time. So, really just identifying talent really so you know he’s a great GM.”

Thomas On Nic Claxton's Ceiling Being 'Unmatched'

“Oh, it’s (Nic Claxton’s ceiling) high, you know? Because Claxton is a great finisher (and a) great defender. The main thing really and, even he’ll tell you, (is) the free throws. I think if he knocks down at least 60 (to) 70 percent of his free throws, that’s way better than you know, instead of like 12 points (per game) whatever he had that could be like 15 (or) 16. So, that’s really the main thing with Claxton but Claxton’s super talented.”
