Entering the 2022-23 NBA season, the Nets looked like serious contenders in the Eastern Conference and a team with decent odds to make the NBA Finals. Then nearly everything went sideways.

Head coach Steve Nash was fired within the season's first two weeks. Jacque Vaughn took over and righted the ship and had the Nets in the thick of the playoff race come February. But Kyrie Irving, who was suspended following an incident involving the promotion of an antisemitic film and a non-apology early in the season, was traded to the Dallas Mavericks after negotiations on a contract extension fell through. The Nets received Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and three picks.

Then Kevin Durant was dealt to the Phoenix Suns in a four-team deal that netted Brooklyn forwards Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, and six draft picks, including the Suns' 2023 first-round pick.

The fully remade Nets finished the year 45-37 with the sixth seed in the East before they were swept out of the playoffs by Philadelphia.

This sets up Nets GM Sean Marks to work with the No. 21 (via Phoenix) and No. 22 overall selections in the 2023 NBA Draft. Here is who the early projections see coming to Brooklyn in the draft.

Kevin O'Connor, The Ringer

No. 21: SF Jordan Hawkins (UConn)

Info: 21 years old, 6-foot-4, 186 pounds

It might be time to look for a Joe Harris replacement. Hawkins would fit the timeline of their core much better and could provide more upside off the dribble.

No. 22: G Leonard Miller (G League Ignite)

Info: 19 years old, 6-foot-9, 213 pounds

Though the Nets have plenty of wings, they don’t really have a forward with Miller’s skill set. And besides, some of Brooklyn’s wings could be on the move this offseason. Multiple reports have already said Cam Johnson is expected to return, but league sources say Brooklyn has received a number of calls for two veteran wings in Royce O'Neale and Dorian Finney-Smith. If the Nets move one or both of them, it would open up more playing time for a rookie like Miller.

Jonathan Wasserman, Bleacher Report

No. 21: SG/SF Dariq Whitehead (Duke)

Info: 18 years old, 6-foot-7, 220 pounds

Whitehead will have a tough time rising up boards after another foot surgery that limits his workout opportunities. But a promising medical report could also help scouts re-picture the scoring wing at Montverde whose creation and shot-making development fueled top-five hype entering the season.

No. 22: G Leonard Miller (G League Ignite)

Info: 19 years old, 6-foot-10, 211 pounds

More of an idea than a surefire NBA pro at this time last year, Miller now has a season's worth of solid G League production, plus gradual improvement and an attractive combination of 6'9" size and wing skills.

Kyle Boone, CBS Sports

No. 21: PF Kris Murray (Iowa)

Info: 22 years old, 6-foot-8, 213 pounds

Murray had a breakout season for Iowa averaging north of 20 points per game while showing off range as a 3-point shooter. He's a combo forward who brings versatility, polish and size.

No. 22: SG Colby Jones (Xavier)

Info: 21 years old, 6-foot-5, 199 pounds

One of my favorite prospects in this class. Jones is one of those players who can fade in and out of games, then you look up and he has 10 points, seven assists and eight rebounds. Impacts winning in a variety of ways.

Brian Mahoney, AP

No. 21: G Jett Howard (Michigan)

Info: 20 years old, 6-foot-8, 215 pounds

His willingness to fire from behind the arc makes the freshman a perfect fit for the 3-point happy NBA. The 6-8 freshman made multiple 3-pointers in 24 of his 29 games for Juwan Howard, his father, and hit three or more in almost half of them. Howard made 36.8% of them while averaging 14.2 points

No. 22: G Leonard Miller (G League Ignite)

Info: 19 years old, 6-foot-10, 211 pounds

The Nets have needed more scoring punch since trading Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, and Miller looks capable of providing it after averaging 18 points last season. The 6-10 Canadian also averaged nearly 11 rebounds, another area Nets leadership has identified as a priority.
