Nelson an All-American on the mat

Mar. 14—Northwestern High School alum Abby Nelson is still making a mark on the mat, as she earned All-American status at the annual National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.

Nelson, a senior at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, finished in eighth place. The Pointers were 10th as a team at the meet, which concluded Saturday, March 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Nelson wrestled six matches at 116 pounds, winning three (two by technical fall) and losing three.

The event concluded a successful career for Nelson that included being crowned a girls high school state champion in Wisconsin, a high school All-American girls wrestler, and a two-time college All-American while at UWSP.
