NCAA baseball tournament bracket projections for Indiana baseball

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana baseball sits firmly on the bubble.

The Hoosiers (32-24-1; 15-9 Big Ten) made a run to the Big Ten tournament semifinals only to lose a pair of games to a Nebraska team that beat Penn State on Sunday for the title.

Was it enough to get IU into the field of 64? The full bracket will be revealed at noon on Monday during a one-hour selection show on ESPN2. The NCAA selection committee announced the 16 host sites on Sunday.

According to D1Baseball, the Hoosiers had the No. 56 ranked RPI and No. 39 strength of schedule.

They had a 6-9 record against Quad 1 teams and were 6-5-1 against Quad 2 teams. They finished third in the regular season Big Ten standings after a late season surge that saw them win five straight series for the first time 2019 and six of their last seven.

It was enough for D1Baseball to give Indiana a tourney nod in their final set of projections. The site had IU as one of the final four to make the field of 64 alongside College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina and Florida and playing in the Knoxville, Tennessee regional as a No. 3 seed.

Baseball America has the Hoosiers playing in Knoxville as well as the No. 3 seed in their final NCAA tournament projections. The Volunteers won the SEC tournament for the second time in three seasons on Sunday with a 4-3 win over defending national champion LSU.

Indiana baseball has reached the tournament three times under coach Jeff Mercer. The Hoosiers reached the finals in the Lexington Regional last season in their first tourney appearance since 2019.

This year's NCAA regional round is scheduled for May 31 to June 3.
