NC State football vs. Miami: Scouting report, prediction for ACC Network showdown

NC State football will be back under the lights at Carter-Finley Stadium for a primetime showdown with Miami on Saturday night in Raleigh.

The Wolfpack (5-3, 2-2 ACC) is hoping to build off its inspiring performance against Clemson with another strong outing against the Hurricanes (6-2, 2-2), who have dominated the series of late. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on ACC Network.

In his 11th season, NC State coach Dave Doeren is one win shy of setting the school record for coaching victories. Here’s a look at some other things to know and a score prediction for the Wolfpack’s matchup with Miami.

Keep finding ways to get NC State football’s KC Concepcion involved

NC State freshman wide receiver KC Concepcion has more touchdown catches (6) through eight games than any true freshman in program history. For a Wolfpack offense that has struggled to find its footing, Concepcion has been the spark. He set the tone against Clemson with a pair of big plays on the first TD drive. If the Wolfpack is going to beat the Hurricanes, Concepcion needs to shine.

Is Wolfpack linebacker Payton Wilson going to play vs. Miami?

One of the favorites to win ACC Defensive Player of the Year, linebacker Payton Wilson has been a menace for offenses throughout the season. Wilson leads the ACC with an average of 11.1 tackles per game and his pick-six against Clemson ended up being the biggest play of the game. He left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury, but Wolfpack fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Earlier this week, Doeren said Wilson is “fine” and should be available against Miami.

NC State has to limit Miami football’s rushing offense

The Hurricanes haven’t been easy on the hearts of their fans in recent weeks with back-to-back overtime wins against Clemson and Virginia. Miami got it done with its run game, averaging 162 rushing yards with four touchdowns against the Tigers and Cavaliers. NC State’s defense allowed more than 150 rushing yards in two of its three losses. The Wolfpack can't allow Miami to run wild Saturday night.

NC State vs. Miami score prediction

Miami 27, NC State 24: The Hurricanes have won four in a row against the Pack, including a pair of shootouts that were decided by three points or less. NC State took a step forward against Clemson, but it remains hard to trust the offense.
